Most people are good at what they do, but not professional at changing careers. Without the proper tools and knowledge, people in this category sometimes get frustrated and discouraged and end up settling for a position that they think is all they can get. They typically look only at the industry and job title where they are.

In a recent BusinessWeek article, in reference to the U.S economy, according to the U.S. Labor Department, approximately 3.8 million Americans were separated from their jobs, whether by layoff or by choice.  At the same time, slightly more than 3.8 million people began new jobs, resulting in a small net gain in payrolls.  Even in this economy, the insight is that the jobs are out there and the key is for jobseekers to demonstrate value to the employer.

As with any endeavor, aligning yourself with the proper tools and knowledge will result in a successful outcome.
